To all the Sherlock/Hobbit crossover Haters out there

(( It has come to my attention that quite some people are getting their knickers in a twist because of the Sherlock fandom also rather liking the Hobbit fandom due two our dear Cumberbatch and Freeman. Generally they get really upset about the Bilbo/Smaug pairing but will also spout bollocks about the Sherlock fandom ruining The Hobbit.

As a LotR fan AND a Sherlock fan, rather enjoying this absolute crack crossover and obviously running a blog dedicated to it, I feel like I should put my two cents in because ‘dayum gurl, this be personal’.

I have been a LotR/Hobbit fan since I was 10 years old (I was born in 1987, you can do some quick maths to obtain my age) and to put things into context, that means I have been a fan since before a word was whispered about the movies. I fell in love with the world, the characters and the rich lore and up until this date, it remains my favourite fantasy setting. I have also been playing with this world since I was 10 and yes, I did start out as a purist.

The movies made me realize a couple of things (and I’m talking about Peter Jackson’s works here, Bakshi is so bad I pretend it does not exist and curse his name). It is never going to be exactly the same as the books and new people will join your fandom and you will NOT agree with all of their ideas. Let go of being such a purist and enjoy the fandom for what it is - do not like it, avoid it. I never liked Sam/Frodo but the movies spawned a lot of it, I simply ignored it as it is harmless fun.

We Hobbit loving Sherlockians just enjoy playing around with the fandoms and are quite aware this is utter crack. Last time I checked we are not harming anyone and unless you can give me written proof that Smaug and Bilbo, along with Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have an issue with this type of crossover, I will continue to ignore your whining.

Also, on a last note, if you think Bilbo/Smaug is a new pairing caused by the Sherlock fans I will have to disappoint you, some of the dirtiest pairings in fanfics I have read have dates going back as far as 1998, the hobbit/dragon one being one of them.
